Street Fighter

Ladies and mostly gentlemen (who are we kidding here?)

Step away from the window. Get out of the tub and unplug that blowdrier. Life is worth living again! The good folks at College Humor have blessed us with the highest-quality material we’re likely to see all summer. I’m talking, of course, about “Street Fighter: The Later Years”.

The story picks up some 10-odd years after the glory days of the gaming franchise, and the characters have clearly fallen on hard times. We follow them as they reunite in an attempt to put together another tournament, traitors (and rheumatoid arthritis) be damned.

The effects are surprisingly decent for viral video production, and the acting is brilliant in all its hammy glory. Lev Gorn is especially hysterical in his overemoting as Ken, and it’s clear he’s having the most fun here. I started watching this as a spoof, but kinda got involved in the story as it unfolded. I laughed, I cried, I revisited my youth as the gray, bitter old geezer I’ve become. So what if the ending’s a bit of a disappointment? I’ve gotta say, CollegeHumor has come a long way from its humble startup beginnings.

Now that summer’s upon us, and there’s absolutely nothing worth watching on TV, save a declining Mad Men and the occasional decent Entourage or True Blood, consider this my gift to you.
